Saturday Spirit Week

My name is Troy the Trojan and this year I documented homecoming year on the Southwest Homecoming blog.

The Homecoming Dance is a dance the students look forward to all year.  The gym is decorated and everyone is dressed to impress.

Students go to the dance with dates, in big groups or with a friends.  You can bring a guest from another school to the Homecoming Dance.  In order for a student to bring a guest they have to pick up a form in the main office and have their guest complete and return to the main office.

The dance starts around 7:30.  Some students arrive on time  while others may come a little later after dinner.  Once students check in are not allowed to leave Southwest and re-enter, once you leave your Homecoming Dance is over.

What a great week!  We are excited that you will be celebrating with us next year!

Friday Spirit Week

Every year Friday is Spirit Day!  Students dress up and go all out to show their school spirit.  The drumline plays before school to pump everyone up for the pep assembly and the football game.  All of the students wear Southwest gear, school colors, makeup, paint, hair color and glitter.   People go crazy on Spirit day!

Today students had shortened class periods so there was time at the end of the day for a pep assembly.  Classes compete in cheer competitions at the pep rally, so there are designated areas in the bleachers for each class.

This is an hour full of cheering, dance, races and fun.  The choir, dance team, cheer squad, drumline and band preform.  Seniors in clubs and sports are celebrated and homecoming court is announced.

Right after school at 4:00pm there was a parade.  Different clubs and activities create floats and compete to see who has the best float!

The parade ended at Southwest just in time for the Tailgate Party.  There was music, food and games.  Everyone comes before the game to meet up with their friends and get ready for the big football game.

Even I came out to supprt the team at the Tailgate!

The game starts at 7:00 and there is something for everyone.  You can watch football, hang out with friends, go to the concession stand and get a hot dog.  This year the Southwest Trojans killed the West Wildcats!  Go Trojans!

After the game students were invited to hang around the stadium and celebrate the win with a DJ!

Thursday Spirit Week

Today the students channeled their inner Paul Bunyan because was Lumberjack day at Southwest!

There were lots of big sporting events tonight, cross country, swimming, boys soccer and girls volleyball all had a competition.

It is important to mention that while Spirit Week is a week of fun students.  However, students have to be careful to not do anything that would prevent them from attending the homecoming football game or the homecoming dance.  If students are caught, even after school hours, they will be held accountable for their actions at school.

Wednesday Spirit Week

Wednesday of Spirit Week is awesome because it is the day of the Powderpuff Football Game.  Powderpuff is a girls only two hand touch football tourniment between the different grade levels.  The student council representatives will host Powderpuff meetings after school and every girl is welcome to attend the meeting and join the team.  The different grades order Powderpuff Tshirts to wear the night of the game.  The freshman always play the sophomores and the juniors always play the seniors.

Also today was Jersey Day!

Something different and fun this year was the Catapult Competition!  This was organized by the agribusiness department!

There is something for everyone to enjoy during Spirit Week!

Tuesday Spirit Week

Today is the second day of Spirit Week.  The students are starting to get excited about the dance and are buying tickets before or after school and during their lunch hour.  Some of the after school activities during spirit week are athletic event.  Students tend to go to sports events more often than usual this week because everyone is showing their school spirit.

By the second day of Spirit Week freshman are more relaxed because they realize all of the rumors about being initiated are not true.  If freshman are part of an activity or sport they may do a team bonding activity.   The upper classman will dress the freshman to make them look goofy, but all of the Southwest students who dress up say it was fun!

Today was When I Grow Up day at school.

These guys went all out!

I wouldn't mind working at a grocery store either!

Monday Spirit Week

Spirit Week at Southwest High School!

My name is Troy the Trojan and I am going to recap Homecoming, or Spirit week!  This week has started at Southwest High School.  This is my favorite time of the year because there is a lot of school spirit and fun activities.  Last week the teachers handed out a Spirit Week Schedule that highlights the weeks activities.  Everyday is a new dress up day and there is always something to do after school.

Handout of Spirit Week Activities

Today is Monday and the dress up day for today is Color Day!  Everyday during 3rd hour the teachers tally how many students are dressed up and points are given to the class who has the most people participate.

Freshman wore yellow...

Sophomores wore green...

Juniors wore orange...

and Seniors wore black...

It is always fun to dress up and see what other people are wearing.  The more people who dress up the more fun it is!

Hallway Decorating

Hallway Decorating was tonight after school.  All of the classes were given a hallway to decorate and anyone can stay after school and help their class.  It is always a fun competition to see which class has the best decorated hallway!  Here are some pictures of the work the students did!
